RetroShelf is a modern social tracking platform built specifically for retro gaming enthusiasts who play on handheld consoles and emulation devices. The platform focuses on automatically logging gameplay sessions across retro handheld systems, allowing players to build a living archive of every game they play, finish, replay, and review. Instead of manually tracking progress in spreadsheets or note apps, RetroShelf automates the entire process through lightweight plugins installed directly on supported handheld devices. The core idea behind RetroShelf is simple: every gaming session matters and deserves to be remembered. Once the plugin is installed on a compatible handheld, the platform automatically records play sessions in real time. It tracks which game was played, how long the session lasted, and which device was used. This creates a seamless timeline of gaming activity that updates continuously without requiring manual input from the player. RetroShelf currently supports retro gaming operating systems such as muOS and OnionOS, both of which are popular among retro handheld communities. Players simply place the plugin on their SD card, connect their handheld device to their RetroShelf account, and allow the system to automatically synchronize gameplay data in the background. The process is intentionally designed to be lightweight, fast, and beginner-friendly. One of RetroShelf’s most attractive features is its personal gaming timeline. The platform transforms scattered gaming sessions into a clean and organized history that users can browse at any time. Players can revisit the games they spent the most time on, track completed titles, view devices they used most frequently, and even attach personal reviews or notes to games they played. This creates a highly personalized digital memory shelf for retro gaming experiences. The social and discovery features are equally important. RetroShelf allows users to explore what other handheld gamers are currently playing, replaying, and completing. Trending games are displayed weekly, helping users discover classics that are gaining popularity within the retro handheld community. Instead of relying purely on ratings or popularity charts, RetroShelf emphasizes real player behavior and authentic community engagement. The platform also introduces context-aware reviews. Reviews are not isolated star ratings — they include information about the handheld used, total time played, and gameplay habits. This gives users more meaningful insights into how games actually perform on specific retro devices. For example, someone considering playing The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap on a Miyoo Mini Plus can see how other players experienced the game on the same hardware. Another major feature is device-based browsing. Users can filter gaming shelves by handheld type, including devices from brands like Miyoo, Anbernic, Odin, and others. This creates niche communities centered around the hardware itself, allowing players to connect with others who enjoy the same gaming setups and devices. RetroShelf is currently operating as a closed beta platform, inviting early retro handheld enthusiasts to help shape the future of the community. The project positions itself not just as a tracking utility, but as a social platform for preserving gaming memories, discovering hidden retro gems, and connecting players through shared gaming experiences across the growing retro handheld scene. Overall, RetroShelf combines automated game tracking, retro handheld integration, social discovery, contextual reviews, and nostalgic game archiving into one unified platform designed specifically for the modern retro gaming community.
